It might be summertime right now, but socks are always in season as far as we’re concerned. Sometimes the air conditioner is freezing you out, or it gets cold in the evenings where you live; either way it’s a good idea to have pair ready to put to work! If you’ve tie dyed everything else in your closet but aren’t sure how to tie dye socks, Club Crafted will show you the easiest way to do it using the Tulip Walking Tie-Dye Kit. With the included circular palette, you’ll get to watch your dyes move and blend to create cool tie-dye patterns!
- White 100% cotton socks
- Disposable plastic surface cover
- Scissors
- Popsicle sticks or stir sticks
Prep your work surface for tie dyeing by covering with a disposable plastic table cover to protect from any potential spills. Your socks should be washed (without fabric softener) before dyeing.
Dampen your socks and wring out excess water.
Now it’s time to learn how to tie dye socks in a cool rainbow tie-dye pattern, and P.S., it’s so easy! First lay out your damp socks on your covered work surface and fold each in half vertically.
Wrap rubber bands around each sock, evenly spacing down the length of the socks. Club Crafted used 4 rubber bands to create 5 sections for tie dyeing a rainbow of 5 different colors.
Prepare the dyes in your circular palette by cutting the corner off of each color packet you’ll be using and pouring the powder into each cup, one per color. Fill with water and mix according to instructions.
Place your damp socks around the circular palette, pressing each banded section into one of the cups of dye as shown.
Allow the socks to set for the recommended time in the instructions. Over time, the dyes will saturate into the damp socks and will move and blend into one another.
Once the dyes have set, remove the socks from the palette and cut off the rubber bands to reveal. Rinse and wash according to instructions.
Now you know how to tie dye socks in a super bright rainbow pattern! It’s so fun to watch the dyes move and blend on their own, don’t you think?! Now that your feet are covered, what else will you tie dye with the Walking Tie-Dye Kit? Make sure to tag us on social and let us know!
