Social media influencer Annie Papi let the good times roll in groovy 70s style for her daughter’s 8th birthday! Annie and her daughters used Tulip One-Step Tie Dye for a fun activity during the birthday celebration. “I was a little nervous about how the tie-dye experience would go,” Annie said. “But thanks to Tulip’s One-Step Tie-Dye Kit, I looked like the Martha Stewart of tie-dye!” Check out their family experience here and get inspired to round up your own crew for some colorful tie-dye action this summer.
- Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kit of choice
- White 100% cotton T-shirts
- Disposable plastic surface cover
- Sealable plastic bags
Some Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye Kits come with the plastic surface cover in them, but if not, you’ll definitely want to protect your work surface with one before getting started. Prewash your shirts (without fabric softener) and leave damp.
Annie and her daughters chose to try the bullseye tie-dye technique for their shirts for a more traditional tie-dye pattern, but you can try any of our tie-dye techniques for results that look pro status! After you have your project bound with rubber bands for the tie-dye pattern of your choice, it’s time to add water to your dye bottles and start tie dyeing.
For the bullseye tie-dye technique, you can use as many or as few colors as you like! Try applying a different color to each banded section, or alternating colors between sections like Annie and her daughters. Once you’ve added all of your dye colors, place in a sealable plastic bag to keep damp for 6 to 8 hours or overnight for the dye to set. Once the dye has set, rinse and wash your tie-dye T-shirts according to instructions.
“I asked my daughters what the highlight of the birthday weekend was, to which they both shouted ‘our tie-dye shirts!’” Annie shared. “I have no doubt we will be tie dyeing all the things this summer using Tulip One-Step Tie-Dye. It was easy to use, mess free and created the most beautiful tie-dye shirts!” What will YOU be tie dyeing this summer? Make sure to let us know!
