Two-Minute Tie-Dye Technique

Speed up the dye set process from 8 hours to 2 minutes with the same vibrant results! Use this patent-pending process with any Tulip One-Step Dye for a faster way to tie dye.

Step 1

Follow the instructions in your kit or any of your favorite "https://www.tiedyeyoursummer.com/techniques" tie-dye techniques to prep, bind and dye your fabric item/garment with One-Step Dyes. The Tulip Two-Minute Tie-Dye process – including the patent-pending containers – is designed to work with One-Step Dyes and 100% cotton fabrics ONLY. Make sure your 100% cotton item is completely damp in all areas before binding and adding dyes. Once all dyes have been added, double check that your item is still damp in all sections. If not, spritz with water to re-dampen, as any dry spots could scorch in the microwave. Place your dyed item into the microwaveable Two-Minute Tie Dye Container and snap it securely shut.

Step 2

Place the closed Two-Minute Tie Dye Container into the microwave and set the processing time according to your microwave wattage and the size of your garment (the recommended processing time based on wattage and garment can be found on the chart in your Two-Minute Tie Dye instructions). Do not leave the microwave unattended while the microwave is processing.

Step 3

After the processing time is complete, remove the Two-Minute Tie Dye Container from the microwave, keeping it closed. Note: the container will be hot, so wear oven mitts to protect hands and place the hot container on a surface that can withstand heat. Leave the lid closed and allow the container to cool for 15 minutes; this also allows for the dyes to completely saturate the fabric. After 15 minutes, open the container lid and allow the garment to cool for another 5 minutes or until cool to the touch. Remove the rubber bands from your garment and launder according to the instructions.
